Okay, tonight's another night and so I decided to re-paint a big part of my new painting. I think it looks better for being simpler. At least until I go to the studio tomorrow...
Interesting to see this one evolving, Shaun. It's clearly a more formal, stately version of the original, smaller 'Cargo', (one of my favourites from 'By The Way').
If that one was like a vivid glimpse, this one's like a more considered gaze. There's also something pleasingly reminiscent of a Diebenkorn 'Ocean Park' about this background.
My only reservation at first sight was about the foreground ground plane, so it's interesting to see you've already reconsidered it yourself. It's possibly a zone of inert space that needs activating somehow? Had you considered extending the geometric shadows a little further? Must admit, I don't know how I'd address it myself without just trying a few different things.
