'The Street (Empty Boxes 2), oil on canvas, 50 x 100cms, 2017-18
As we transition from 2017 to 2018, for which I
just seem to have staggered into the New Year so far, I’ve continued to work on
some new paintings based on subject matter found in the immediate vicinity of
the street where I live.
'Empty Boxes', oil on canvas, 60 x 60cms, 2017-18
I’ve so far titled this collection of paintings as
‘Negativland’ on the website, and I’ve nearly completed 20 of them now. I see
them as sort of ‘found still lives’ in the urban landscape and develop my
interest in both these genres and some of the still life work I have done
previously.
'The Cooker', oil on canvas, 80 x 60cms, 2018
They are pretty bleak in mood yet I’m pleased
with them, particularly some of these recent ones, and I’m enjoying painting
them, getting more of a sense of what I’m after the more I do.
'Parked Car', oil on canvas, 50 x 40cms, 2017
However, I have just two more larger ones planned
and I think I will have exhausted it for now. I have an exhibition at Evesham
Arts Centre in May where I will be exhibiting many of them. It’s a fairly
modest venue but has a long exhibition wall that I think will suit the series. Watch
this space…
